The image above is a screenshot of a section of Foreign Policy's homepage from June 24, 2022 to July1, 2022, in which we dedicated an entire section just to our new and evergreen storytelling about the global LGBTQ community.
In June 2022, I spearheaded an editorial project at Foreign Policy magazine to commemorate global Pride Month and elevate nuanced and underreported stories that touched on the challenges and triumphs of LGBTQ people around the world—particularly across the global south. In doing so, I commissioned and edited two pieces from two new contributors and resurfaced evergreen stories from FP archives to be published and featured during the final week of the month.
One such story I commissioned and edited, titled "Netflix India's 'Cobalt Blue' Shows Queer Love—in Primary Colors," brought the most readership traffic to Foreign Policy's subscriber page than any other article published on the site for over one month following the story's publication. In addition, a “Decoder” that I commissioned, titled "How ‘Bakla’ Explains the Struggle for Queer Identity in the Philippines" continues to be the only article at FP that addresses the Tagalog language and is the only article in FP’s recorded history that is about queer identity in the Philippines.
