Throughout the summer of 2020 in Washington, D.C., Black Lives Matter protests honoring the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and other Black Americans who had died at the hands of the police emboldened a new wave of criticism against the country's institution of policing and its deep-seated history of racism.
